SECOND TABERNACLE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH
Our Work with and in the community
What does the Bible say about helping the needy?
By “the needy,” we mean anyone with an earthly need that is more severe than the average citizen within that community. It could be hunger, homelessness, unemployment, or mental illness.
The Bible teaches the principle of helping the needy: “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land” (Deuteronomy 15:11 also v. 7,8). The needy and the poor have a claim on those who are not poor, and the help they require should be given without hesitation.
